The Bible is the very lifeblood of my faith, but it is also a source of my deepest struggles in faith. As I studied the word, I was amazed by the mystery that was revealing itself to me. And yet this same study has been a dance with confusion. I realize that the less I asked of the Bible, the easier it is to understand, but when I want more than just a “surface” understanding, the harder I try the more behind I get. I take comfort in Hebrews where it says, “in the past, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,” reminding me that God’s Word is not always easy.
